Senior School Newsletter dated 17th March 2017
Wingate Senior News
Friday 17 March 2017
Dear Parents / Guardians,
Inspection: I am both delighted and immensely proud to share with you the results of the recent British Schools Overseas (BSO) & Nabss Inspection at Wingate School.
Following an intense 3 days by a team of 4 Inspectors, where every detail of the school was scrutinised, the Schools Inspection Service have accredited us with the ‘BSO’ standard status. This is a quality benchmark which means that we achieved all of the standards required to be recognised internationally as a British School Overseas. This is a fantastic achievement for Wingate School as only the top 5% of International British schools even apply for BSO status and many do not reach the required standards. Additionally, we were reaccredited by the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS). The full Report can be read from our website.
E-Safety Policy: E-safety is always a huge concern to us. We spend a great deal of time teaching the students how to be safe and act responsibly on the internet and particularly social media. I have now produced an E-Safety Policy which can be read from our website and is attached here. Both you and your child must sign and return the form to their Tutor by Tuesday 21st of March. I cannot stress enough the importance of both parents and students following the E-Safety guidelines.
There are ‘Parent Advice’ posters posted near the school gate and next week, you will be sent a little booklet from ‘Internet Matters’ organisation with advice for you and your children. We have advised all students of this site: www.internetmatters.org
For students aged 13+, there is an adult moderated, self help app which students can download from: https://www.meetwo.co.uk/
Activity: Please see the adjacent poster to advertise an activity available to a small number of students as an alternative activity to their Monday afternoon sport. This has been kindly arranged by one of our parents who will also ferry students to and from the venue.
As the poster says it is a first come – first served basis, but if it is a success then further courses will be arranged for the next academic year.
It is €10 per week for the 8 weeks plus €45 to be registered and certified. They must commit for the full 8 weeks. A deposit of €10 for the first week is required to register on the course.
Please contact the office if you wish your child to take part.
May & June external exams: The timetable is now available on the school website
Uniform: is considered very important at Wingate. Frankly, it is not fair to families who do have their children in the correct uniform if a small number ignore the rules! We will continue to be very strict on uniform so please ensure your child is in the correct uniform and correct footwear.
Absences: It is essential that parents contact the school office before 9.00 am if your child is going to be absent from school.
School Bags: The school bag capacity load is 12 kilos. Please ensure that your child only brings the school books that they need for that day.
Wednesday 29 March: University Fair in Santa Cruz. Year 11 & 12 students can attend but must organise their own transport to and from the venue and parents must advise the school office that their child will be absent from school.
