Wingate Senior
School
Wingate Senior School
provides teaching from Year 7 to the Sixth
Form. At Key Stage 3 we follow the British National Curriculum
modified to fit our international status At
Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11), courses for GCSE and the
Cambridge International Diploma are studied.
In the Sixth Form, students choose the Advanced Course or the Standard
Course.
On the Advance Course students concentrate on GCE AS and A levels although
it is possible to re-take some GCSEs.
The Standard Course
aims to help students boost the number of A*-C grades they gained in
Year 11.
Wingate
caters for first language English speakers
in the main. The main language of instruction is

We aim for the highest possible
level of accomplishment for each student academically, physically and
socially.
Academically we seek at least Level 5 in English Maths Science by the end
of Key Stage 3; at least 5 grades at C or above including Spanish at
(I)GCSE by the end of Year 11 and convalidation of their studies within
the Spanish system.
Physically we seek to develop a habit of regular exercise and
participation in sport.
Socially we seek to help our young people to become well-mannered
positive members of society who have opinions and know how to express them
appropriately. They will show respect for other members of society
whatever their background, nationality, race or
religion.
Wingate is an
authorised centre for Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and
London Examinations (Edexcel). We are recognised by the Spanish
Government as an official school.
All students
throughout the school have access to the latest information and
communication technology (ICT). We have broadband Internet
connection for all our computers. ICT lessons are provided for
all year groups.
Physical Education and
sport play an important role.
The British National
Curriculum is taught with the exception of Technology.
However, every child studies Spanish every
day. Spanish teaching groups are differentiated, with several groups
for each age range catering for a wide range of abilities. The top
groups in each Year work at the same level as students in Spanish
schools. Many students take GCSE Spanish at the end of Year 9
and A Level at the end of Year 11. The needs of beginners are
also catered for. Students are encouraged to progress rapidly.
Transfer to intermediate and advanced groups is permitted at any time
during the year.
Wingate is officially
authorised by the Spanish Education Authority and students’ studies are
convalidated to the equivalent levels in the Spanish school
system. This means that students may proceed to
Further Education and Higher Education in Spanish colleges and
universities. Of course, many students opt for UK Further Education
and
Universities but the courses and qualifications at Wingate are
recognised worldwide. Ex-Wingate students have graduated from
universities in the UK, USA, Belgium, Germany, Holland,
Switzerland, and Spain.
Our programme respects
and guides individuals according to their needs, whilst aiming to realise
the full potential of well motivated and able students. It is
designed to foster enthusiasm for learning, develop social skills within a
multi-cultural environment, and help students to interpret and develop
their roles in a changing world.
Our school rules and
attitudes are based on the traditions of the British education
system. We value the characteristic strengths and
thoroughness. We provide strong discipline within a caring
framework. We promote a good work attitude and provide a
solid approach to learning. We seek to serve the needs of the
British expatriate community, whether long term or short term residents of
Tenerife. We believe that this also responds to the needs of
many other nationalities.
Our emphasis is on providing students with an
education that will stand comparison with good schools in
Britain.
