Wingate Juniors' Curriculum

Junior Classroom 1The Junior School follows the National Curriculum Key Stage 2 programme of studies.

Each year in May Year 6 pupils take their S.A.T.s - the results from the 2005 S.A.T.s were as follows:

English: 97% of pupils achieved Level 4 or higher
Maths: 91% of pupils achieved Level 4 or higher
Science: 85% of pupils achieved Level 4 or higher
 

Children in Years 3-5 also sit the optional Key Stage 2  S.A.T.s at the the end of the school year.

There are also exams in January and parents receive written reports twice a year (as well as there being two 'Parents' Afternoons', whereby staff can discuss pupils' progress with parents), following the exams at the beginning of the Spring Term and towards the end of the Summer Term.

Homework Policy:  The Junior Department believe firmly in the daily setting of regular homework, in order to supplement or reinforce work done in class.

The Teaching of Spanish:
All Junior classes receive a minimum of 4-5 lessons of Spanish per week and children are streamed into ability groups according to ability and experience of the language.

The Other Subjects of the UK National Curriculum:

English, Maths, Science, Modified History Syllabus, Geography, Music, Modified Art and Technology Syllabus and Games.

Art - The pupils experience pottery, modelling, sewing, painting designing and technology.

Games - Sports include: Football, hockey, rounders, cricket, short tennis and athletics.

Facilities offered:

Junior Library and Video Room.

A large Hall / theatre.

A spacious play area for sport.

Internet-connected Computer in each classroom.

Use of the local sports ground for the weekly games lesson on Wednesday afternoons.

and  a 'Tuck-Shop' where snacks and drinks can be purchased at break times.
