Years of Wingate

Many former students and staff made their way back to Wingate last Friday 2nd November to celebrate the 25th birthday of the school.

Photos from across the decades were displayed giving much  amusement and astonishment to many of those attending.  The Science Department had mounted a  "25 years of Science discoveries" display in the labs and in the Spanish department students had also produced posters to mark the event.

A moving account of  the early history of the school was given by Margaret Green.  Do you remember the Camel Stables?  Mrs Green paid tribute to those in the local Spanish community who have and still do assisted Wingate so much.  Particular mention and flowers were presented to Sole and Nieves who have been with the school throughout these 25 years.

Entertainment was provided by Year 9 students Ana Gomez Thompson on the piano accompanying Diletta Ballaratti's singing.  Then Jordana Burridge sang two more songs.

Finally it was back to the tables laden with food and drinks.  All to be consumed that night Mrs and Mr Green urged.

And the last word from many ex-students "See you in 5 years time!"

Do you have pictures from the history of Wingate? Do you have stories you would like to share?  We have lots of room on the History page of the web-site.  Send us your photos or stories to 25th@wingateschool.com

The Football Match

Old Boys 6        Student Eleven 6

A fair sized crowd turned out at El Campo de Fútbol, Cabo Blanco on Saturday 27th October, in spite of the rain.  The Old Boys versus Student Eleven football match was  a gruelling affair with both sides exhausted by the end.  It did show what a friendly should really be like, Jamie Palmer even played on both teams during the match.  There were some good goals and excellent saves.  Everyone had a great time.  Our sympathies do go out to Ross Gorse however, who broke his arm during the match.
